The Peace Pole Project
A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. Each Peace Pole bears the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each of its four or six sides. There are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in nearly every country in the world dedicated as monuments to peace. Peace Poles carrying the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” have been presented to many international organizations and governments to promote a Culture of Peace around the world. Some examples of these organizations include : |

A Vision for Social Justice —
As members of the Resurrection Parish Community, each of you is invited to participate, to become actively involved in our Social Concerns Ministry. You can do this by praying, by learning, and by acting. Our Parish, our local community, and our community need your involvement and help! The vision and the direction of our Social Concerns Ministry is taken from the Catholic Bishops’ document, Communities of Salt and Light: Reflections on the Social Mission of the Parish:
The center of the Church’s social teaching is the life, dignity, and rights of the human person. We are called in a special way to serve the poor and vulnerable; to build bridges of solidarity among peoples of differing races and nations, language and ability, gender, and culture. Family life and work have special places in Catholic social teaching; the rights of the unborn, families, workers, immigrants, and the poor deserve special protection. Our tradition also calls us to show our respect for the Creator by our care for creation and our commitment to work for environmental justice. This vital tradition is an essential resource for parish life. It offers a framework and direction for our social ministry, calling us to concrete works of charity, justice and peacemaking.
What’s Happening in Social Justice?
Haiti Parish Twinning
A Haitian Proverb says, “What the eye doesn’t see, doesn’t move the heart.” Our eyes have truly seen and our hearts have truly been moved. The following petition is so very true! “O lespri Sen desann sou nou; nou gen yon misyon pou Ayiti. (O Holy Spirit descend on us; we have a mission for Haiti.) Amen!” Keep our mission for January of 2008 in your thoughts and prayers.

...the Association of South East Asian Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization of American States, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the Pentagon, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization, — just to name a few.
Peace-lovers of all faiths have been involved in Peace Pole dedications, including the XIV Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, President Jimmy Carter, Deepak Chopra and John Denver, as well as mayors, clubs and Girl Scouts. There are Peace Poles on the Allenby Bridge between Israel and Jordan; at the Peace Park where 84 Peace Poles commemorate the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, at the War Museum in Viet Name; at Robben Island in South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; at the Pyramids at El Giza in Egypt; at the site of the baptism of Jesus at Bethay-Beyond–the–Jordan; and at schools, churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples across the United States and around the world.
As of August of 2006, there is a Peace Pole at The Church of the Resurrection in Burtonsville, MD, too.
